Kaiku
FOOD

Nutrition when you want it, not when you don't

The Food tab gives you calorie tracking and macro breakdowns — but doesn't force them on you. Log meals simply, or skip the whole tab entirely.

STEP 1 · OPTIONAL

A tool, not an obligation

Food in Kaiku is a tool that waits for you. You can keep calorie tracking tight, dip in once in a while, or never open the tab at all.

You don't have to face a streak-failure if you skip a day. Kaiku doesn't punish with a number or push guilt-trip notifications. Nutrition is one part of the whole — not the centre.

STEP 2 · LOGGING

Write it in your own words — Kaiku does the math

You don't have to look up ingredients in a database. Write your meal description in plain language and Kaiku estimates calories and macros. Accuracy is close to manual logging — with about a tenth of the effort.

You can refine any time: change the portion, add an ingredient, edit Kaiku's estimate. But quick logging works in most cases and keeps the friction low.

STEP 3 · WEEKLY SUMMARY

The week's average, not a daily grind

The Food tab doesn't get stuck on individual days. Weekly averages tell the real story of how you eat, and Kaiku notices patterns a single day can't show.

One indulgent day doesn't ruin a week, and one good day doesn't rescue it. Kaiku looks at the whole week and feeds back from there — gently.

STEP 4 · SUGGESTIONS

Today's meals, tuned to training

Kaiku suggests meals around today's energy needs. Higher carbs on a training day, lower on a rest day. You can take the whole plan or adjust a single meal.

Suggestions are a starting point, not a prescription. You don't have to follow the list exactly — take an idea and bend it to your own rhythm, or ignore the whole suggestion.

STEP 5 · DIETARY PREFERENCES

Diets, allergies and preferences

Set vegetarian or vegan diets, lactose- and gluten-free, allergies and personal preferences in your own words. Kaiku's suggestions follow them automatically — you don't have to filter every tip.

You can also write in free form: "I don't eat mushrooms", "I avoid yeast", "there's a nut allergy in the family." Kaiku understands and respects it in every suggestion.

STEP 6 · QUICK ACTIONS

Logging shouldn't feel like a chore

The Food tab offers quick actions that make logging fast: repeat yesterday, favourites, photo of the plate (in beta), or dictate to Kaiku. Pick whatever fits you.

For most people about 70% of meals in a week repeat. When you repeat yesterday or pick a favourite, logging a day takes a minute.

I was sick of apps that flash red the moment you cross a calorie limit. Kaiku shows the same number and says: "You did well today."

Common questions about Food

Can Kaiku help with weight loss?

Kaiku can help build sustainable eating habits, not crash diets. If you want medical weight-loss coaching, see a dietitian.

Does it work with special diets?

Yes — Kaiku handles vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose-free and FODMAP diets, as well as allergies. Tell it what you eat and what you avoid, and it carries that through every suggestion.

Is the Food tab required?

No. You can skip the Food tab entirely and focus on other areas. Kaiku won't ask if you turn it off.

How accurate is the calorie estimate?

A free-text meal entry usually lands within ±10–15% of manual logging. You can refine portions or ingredients any time you want a more exact number.

Could this trigger an eating disorder?

If you have a history with eating disorders we recommend skipping the Food tab entirely. You can hide it in settings. Kaiku still works fully on Body, Training and Mind without any nutrition tracking.
